[MIKARA] Knitwear is not a new thing, its been around for centuries but you found a way to make it look modern and very fashion forward ( which are gorgeous). What got you into knitting?
[DÓRA] I graduated at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (Budapest) specialized in knitwear design. The knitwear design was my choice. I can create my own fabric and pattern and I can be really creative.
[MIKARA] What was the moment you knew you wanted to become an fashion designer?
[DÓRA] I was 6 years old when I decided to become a fashion designer.
[MIKARA] What put you in the zone to create your latest collection?
[DÓRA] The idea of this collection had been in my head for long time. When I started to work as freelance knitwear designer, I had had more free time, so I used this time to create my first hand knitted collection.
[MIKARA] What is your favorite part about being a fashion designer?
[DÓRA] The knitting, the yarns and the experimentation.
[MIKARA] Define fashion (to you)?
[DÓRA] The fashion is an art and I can express myself through knitwear.
[MIKARA] In 3-5 words, define your brand
[DÓRA] My knitwear design is very experimental, I use unusual materials for my collections, but the shapes are wearable. The hand knitting is a very slowly, meticulous and contemplative method like authentic traditional handcraft. I would like to create unique pieces.
[MIKARA] Where would you like to see your brand in 2 years ago?
[DÓRA] I hope that I will have two more collections and I can continue the experimentation which I love.
[MIKARA] If there a celebrity/influencer you would love to be in your design, who would it be and Why?
[DÓRA] Susie Bubble, I really like her style.
[MIKARA] Outside of fashion designing, what do you do for fun?
[DÓRA] Usually, I’m busy on weekdays, but I like to start with un pain au chocolat or un croissant ( french pastry) at weekends. I love to go to the cinema on Saturday morning and than eat in a restaurant in our neighborhood.
[MIKARA] What is next for the brand Dóra Kelemen?
[DÓRA] I won the prize Kozma Lajos (Hungarian prize) and I have already started to work on my second hand knitted collection.
