[Mikara] How did you get introduced to fashion? And what age were you?
[I’sha] I got into fashion when I was eleven years old. I always loved my eldest sister’s wardrobe and wore her clothes when she wasn’t home to wear to school or hang out with friends. Her style was unique and effortlessly fly.
[Mikara] At that moment of you getting familiar with fashion, did you know right then and there you wanted to be a designer? Why?
[I’sha] No, I didn’t know right there and then I wanted to be a fashion designer. I knew right there and then that I was into fashion and I liked expressing myself through clothing. Over time, I started to realize I was a designer but I am always challenging the title of “designer.” I want to be remembered for my entrepreneurial and ingenious spirit.
[Mikara] What was THE one moment you knew you wanted to take fashion design seriously and this was going to be your career?
[I’sha] I didn’t have a moment that I knew I wanted to be a fashion designer. To be frank, I knew I wanted to be a entrepreneur through fashion. I knew I wanted to build a empire through my talent of fashion and entrepreneurial mindset.
[Mikara] How do you define fashion?
[I’sha] I define fashion as ; high performance of quality, wearable and simplistic silhouettes that are timeless.
[Mikara] Describe the IZAYLA woman in 3-5 words?
[I’sha] Ambitious, passionate, and mysterious.
[Mikara] Many brands/designers struggle with creating a brand name that stands out and is not too difficult for people to remember, how did you come u with ‘IZAYLA’ ?
[I’sha] IZAYLA came from long nights of tossing and turning and trying to decide on the right name that would ultimately represent me in the form of a brand.
[Mikara] During your SS 19 runway collection at Los Angeles Fashion Week Powered by Art Hearts Fashion, look # 7 & 8 is def something I would wear but my ultimate favorite was look #4. It showed a touch of sexiness without overdoing in a very modern lady-like way. What was your inspiration behind these designs?
[I’sha] My inspiration while designing the SS 19’ collection was to showcase the IZAYLA woman in multiple ways. Every piece had its own identity and personality. That’s what the IZAYLA woman represents. She is anything she wants to be that day. She’s versatile.
[Mikara] What’s your favorite item in your current collection? And why?
[I’sha] I recently showcased my SS Resort 20’ collection in New York in June 2019. My favorite silhouette in the collection is Look 1. It’s a white acrylic jumpsuit that has slash pockets and bellowed pockets in the front and pockets in the back with a gold exposed zipper in the back. It’s a very sophisticated jumpsuit with simplistic details. It’s a timeless jumpsuit. What can I say, it’s IZAYLA.
[Mikara] How has fashion made you express your new dimensions in your brand? Life? Confidence after graduating from FIDM in Los Angeles?
[I’sha] Fashion hasn’t made me express myself in new dimensions with my brand. I essentially curate what I want to see women wear. Graduating from FIDM gave me the affirmation that “I can do anything I set my mind too”, even when my back is against the wall and when no one sees the vision that I have for IZAYLA.

[Mikara] When it comes to fashion in this current digital age, its not always easy to grab or receive people’s attention in a great way. What’s to come next release for your independent brand IZAYLA?
[I’sha] Next to come for my brand is my very own presentation of my upcoming season. I am excited for the public to come see and shop because I hope to display my creative side a little more.
[Mikara] Besides designing, do you have any hidden talents?
[I’sha] I have a good eye for photography. Some of the photos on the brand page are taken by me.
[Mikara] If you could pick a celebrity/influence to be your brand ambassador for a season, who would it be and why?
[I’sha] If I could choose a celebrity to be my brand ambassador for a season, Gabrielle Union Wade would be my choice. She embodies the IZAYLA woman perfectly. She’s ambitious, passionate and unapologetic. She’s bold and willing to display her confidence no matter where she is or what she’s in.
[Mikara] What luxury designer/brand do you admire the most and why?
[I’sha] I admire Chanel due to the timelessness of the brand, its classic elegant silhouettes and consistent brand identity throughout the development of the brand and in the current digital era.
[Mikara] In the next 3-5 years, where would you like to see yourself, personally and professionally?
[I’sha] Personally I would like to keep learning about myself and most importantly, loving on myself and becoming the best version of myself. Professionally, for my brand, I want IZAYLA to become a lifestyle brand.
